New Shoes & Winter Expectations

Above Black Ladders - Carneddau

This Sunday, Brad and I are setting off to North Wales.

The weather currently has been a bit mild and no substantial snow has fallen on the hills since December. The forecast though seems to be turning, and I expect some snow will be on the tops when we arrive.

What happens whilst we're there, who knows! One thing's for sure, its gonna be a good time!

I've recently bought some running sandals (yes, you heard - sandals) from Vivobarefoot. I've already got their Ultra shoe, which is extremely light and wonderful to run in.

Being sandals these are described as amphibious shoes. They have quite a unique look, and would probably not look out of place on the beach. But for someone looking for an extremely minimal shoe I find them great to run in!

The big toe is separated much like a traditional sandal, but keeps it aligned at a more natural angle. I've read that they need a little breaking in, and on my first run (5km) I took some skin off my second toe. It quite possibly could have been the foot straps were too loose!!

The strap secures your heel and midfoot snugly to the sandal, making your feet feel very close to the ground - almost barefoot like!

I'm currently wearing these round the house a bit more to break them in, and will soon give them another run.
