Snowdonia Winter Expedition 2012 - Report

Sunday: We arrived a bit earlier than planned, and after checking out Tryfan stopped by the Pen-y-Gwryd Hotel for coffee and nostalgia.

Monday: 7.30am start up Tryfan's North Ridge. After summit continued along to Bristly Ridge to summit Glyder Fach, then descended via YGribin ridge. A dusting of snow on the tops.

Tuesday: Raining. Went to the Beacon for some climbing.

Wednesday: Still raining. Went to Tryfan Bach and ascended Chimney Crack (Diff) in pouring rain and big boots. Good fun!!

Thursday: Snow down to about 600m. Climbed the Y Gribin ridge on Snowdon, then ascended the East Ridge from the col to the summit. Descended via the Pyg Track.

Friday: Made an attempt to climb Crib Lem in the Carneddau. Climbed to around half height but decided to turn back due to high winds, spindrift, and what appeared to be whiteout conditions on the summit of Carnedd Dafydd. Lots of deep snow drifts!

Saturday: Perfect weather! Snow down to 500m. Early start again. Ascended the East Ridge to Crib Goch summit, then traversed the ridge itself, followed by Crib-y-Ddysgl and its summit.

All in all a fantastic week!
