Scrambling and soloing

Last weekend Brad and I spent Saturday and Sunday down at Swanage, camping at Tom's Field campsite.

We had a late start on Saturday, and after setting up base camp headed down to the Cattle Troughs.

With my leg slowly getting better I didn't want to lead anything too hard or unfamiliar, so I lead Chockney (VDiff 4a). After which we spent a lot of time scrambling and soloing easy short routes on the scramblers wall west of the main area. There was also a short Difficult route which we soloed quite a few times.

I find soloing easy stuff a good mental workout, as it gets your head in the right place and makes you feel more confident with your footwork.

Saturday night finished after quite a few beers at the local in Langton Matravers and a stumble back to the tent.

Sunday morning we headed straight down to Subluminal. I suggested Brad should lead Curving Crack (Sev 4a). We rapped down on to the sea ledge, and after a bit of yanking finally pulled our rope down from the top. Brad ummmed and errrred over Curving Crack but decided not to go for it in the end. Both feeling a bit fragile we took the easy way out up High Street (Diff).

Subluminal was a bit crowded, so we headed down the Cattle Troughs again and did some more soloing.

A good relaxing weekend.
