I got my hands on the ledge just above my last runner. I'll have it next time! |
Yesterday Brad and I ventured back to Goblin Combe for the second time after visiting it earlier in the year.
After oversleeping slightly we made it there by about 10am. The quarried wall next to the car park has been completely flooded with all the rain, making for a deep water soloing venue if you fancy taking a dip!
We warmed up on a short but interesting VDiff called Pearl. Then I headed over to Pippin (VS 5a) again to see if I could get the crux moves this time round. My first attempt started well and after getting some gear in I almost did it, but came off. As I did I twisted my leg slightly and pulled a muscle, so I had a little rest until it settled. I gave it another go, and this time I got it grabbing two big jugs on the ledge. But in about 10 seconds whilst hanging there, I talked myself out of climbing further and threw myself back off.
After the crux on Esgaroth |
It was completely in my head. The fear of coming off. Stupid, as I threw myself off anyway! Next time.
Brad then lead Esgaroth (HS 4b), as tough little number. Half way up the climb I had to pull myself up on to a sloping ledge, which really made my leg hurt. I then romped through the crux section dragging my wobbly leg with me.
Abbing down a slippery gully |
After abbing down the face, the rain slowly started to come down. With only an hour of daylight left we retired to the pub.
